Conditioners are like cold creams or moisturising lotion for your hair. Just as you need moisturisers to keep your skin soft and glowing, you need conditioners to keep your hair soft and shiny.
'Everybody needs conditioner. Use just a little, but do use it, even if you have oily hair. There are special non-greasy conditioners in the market formulated for oily hair types,' says Pune-based hairstylist and salon owner Fazila Ashar.
Why use conditioner?
'Every hair root has an oil gland. Each hair on our head stands separately because the oil from the gland coats each strand. When the oil from the natural oil glands is not able to reach and cover the whole length of the strand, hair becomes dry and damaged, leading to hair fall. That's why you need conditioners to nourish the entire strand, from root to tip. Especially for treated hair - whether you have got them permed, straightened or coloured - conditioner is not optional, it is an absolute must,' says Dr Shehla Agarwal, a Delhibased dermatologist.
Beauty must-reads: How to sport healthy and clear skin
Use it right
How do you know that you are using the shampoo and conditioner right? Try this test: After you've rinsed off the shampoo, run two fingers over the surface of your wet hair - that should make a slight "squeaking" sound. Only then, take a dollop of the conditioner, and work it into your strands, starting about two inches from the roots. Move towards the tips, covering the entire length. Conditioner needs time to work.
If you apply and rinse immediately, you're not giving it a chance to do its job - keep the conditioner on for at least 5 minutes. Rinse till your hair feels soft (but not slimy). The amount of conditioner needed depends on how your hair feels. Decrease or increase the amount you use till your hair comes out "behaving" perfect - they should be manageable, soft and tangle-free.
• Never put conditioner on your scalp. It can make itchy, oily patches to break out all over your head. If you have an itchy scalp, get an oil massage or hot-oil treatment before shampooing and conditioning your hair.
• Don't change your conditioner brands too often. Give the product a little time to "tame" your tresses. If a hair-care brand really understands and nurtures your hair, stick to it.
• Leave-in conditioner is great for hair that needs extra moisturising. Once you're done washing and conditioning, apply your leave-in conditioner on wet strands - don't rinse it out.
DID YOU KNOW? Your daily make-up has an insane amount of chemicals
Add to the at-home treatments
Henna (mehendi), mixed with oil or egg yolks, adds bounce and shine to your hair. However, it can leave your hair feeling rough and tangled - apply a dollop of conditioner after you have applied henna to smooth things over. Traditional herbal treatments such as reetha and shikakai also tend to dry out hair. Conditioning is a must to soften hair washed this way.
When having hot water baths?
'Cold weather calls for more conditioner since hot water strips the oil from your hair, leaving it brittle and dry. A common mistake people make - they apply oil, and then shampoo it off with hot water. You are first adding moisture, then taking it right back out!'explains Dr Agarwal.
Get the heat to help your hair, not damage it!
'For deep conditioning, apply oil and wrap a hot, steaming towel around your head. Use the heat to help the oil soak into your scalp more effectively. Follow through with a shampoo and conditioner. This is something you can do at home once a week,' she says.
Condition, don't straighten!
You can say bye-bye to thick, gorgeous hair if you regularly singe your tresses with hot hair-irons and blow-dryers. If you are going for the straight look, slather on a smoothing, anti-frizz conditioner, instead of using hot iron. If you want a beautiful head of healthy, glossy curls, volumising conditioners are the answer. They enhance the curls and add bounce.

A tailor's bunion can be a painful foot problem
A tailor's bunion can be a painful foot problem - By: Toby White
The tailor’s bunion or bunionette is smaller than a big toe bunion but no less painful. It is located on the outside of the foot on the fifth metatarsal joint at the base of the little toe. The metatarsal bone becomes displaced causing a bony lump on the outside of the foot, and can be the source of considerable pain.
The condition is similar to that of a big toe bunion, and the process of formation is the same. Due to the smaller bones, the condition is often less severe on the small toe, but can be the source of considerable inflammation and the little toe can become deformed, pointing inwards to the rest of the toes.
A tailors bunion condition becomes worse when wearing tight fitting shoes which place pressure on the side of the feet. Shoes which cramp the toes move them out of their natural position causing stresses to be placed on the joints. When this is coupled with an elevated heel, the body weight is shifted onto the delicate joints of the toes, which are not designed to take the weight.
Over time, the pressures can cause a displacement of the joint and the metatarsal bone, which can lead to the formation of a tailor’s bunion. The tailor’s bunion gets its name due to its high prevalence in the clothing industry where tailors sat cross-legged for hours, and the excess pressure placed on the joints of the toes saw bunions form on the outside of both feet, hence the name tailor’s bunions. They are also referred to as a bunionette and can be the source of considerable toe pain
Whilst some bone conditions such as osteoarthritis and congenital bone defects can be to blame, it is inappropriate footwear which is the major cause, and women are by far the greatest sufferers of the condition due to wearing high heeled shoes.
As the bunion develops, the head of the fifth metatarsal bone displaces outwards, causing a bony lump on the side of the foot. This can make choosing footwear difficult, due to the pressure placed on the joint and the associated pain, or just the fact that shoes no longer fit. Specialist bunion shoes then need to be worn, so that there is no further deterioration of the condition. Any shoe which has a flexible upper and a wide toe box will give some relief.
Tailors bunion pain can be eased by soaking the feet in hot water or resting the feet, however since tailor’s bunions are often inflamed, anti-inflammatory drugs help to relieve pain. In order to help the toes get back into a normal position, a bunion night splint is one of the best treatment programs. They serve to keep the toes in the correct position throughout the night, to help keep the toe straight and prevent further deterioration, whilst getting the toe back to its normal position. Specific tailors bunion splints are required since big toe bunion splints correct problems on this inside of the foot.
In severe cases, where the deformity has been allowed to progress, or where there is chronic pain, tailors bunion surgery is required. This surgically corrects the problem and realigns the little toe. Since bunion formation involves the growth of excess bone in many cases, it is sometimes necessary to remove excess bone and to repair the joint. AS such the surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and can leave patients with associated pain following surgery.
Recovery time is approximately 2 weeks, with sometime on crutches to prevent damage to the bones and joint whilst they heal. It is generally recommended for only the most severe cases due to the risk from general anaesthetic. In the majority of causes, non-surgical correction is highly effective.

Pain and Stiffness in the Back, Joints or Muscles
Pain and Stiffness in the Back, Joints or Muscles - Prevention and Cure - By: Knut Holt
Most orthopedic problems, like pain and stiffness in the joints, muscles and back, are not due to any specific disease in progress. Such problems are mostly symptoms of wearing, small injuries and tense muscles. The problems rise because of wrong use of the body during work and spare time. They also rise because of constant stress and lack of rest. However, if something is not done to treat such simple problems, they can over time evolve into a more serious condition or damage. Here are some simple advices to avoid or cure such orthopedic problems.
- Variate the way you sit or stand during work and other activities. Any position will exert pressure at certain areas of your body and restrict the flow of blood and lymph through these areas. There is no sitting and standing position that are so physiological correct that it should be held a long time. Frequent variations of your position will ensure that no body area will get a restricted blood flow over a long time.
- You should however avoid working positions that exert excessive burden on specific body areas, for example position where you must lean forward so that your back is heavily strained. Also avoid positions that heavily restrict the blood flow in a body area. If you for example sit on a too high chair, the front rim of the chair will press heavily up into your thighs and the blood flow to your legs will be heavily restricted.
- Take a break at regular intervals where you walk a little around. This can often be done without interrupting your work. Most people have activities during the day that require sitting, walking and standing. Just blend these activities throughout the day.
- When you are doing heavy work of any kind, do not have a heavy work load at the same body parts for a long time. Try to switch between task so that you variate your work load.
- Do not do heavy work or lifts that you are not accustomed to by training or practice. If such work is necessary, find someone to help you to alleviate the burden, try to divide the work in smaller pieces or find some tools to lessen the burden.
- Have some exercise for your muscle strength at lest every third day. Weight-lifting is a good method of training up your muscle strength. You do not need to train with very heavy heights to make your muscles and joints much more resistant against wearing and injuries. Moderately heavy weights that everyone can lift is good enough for this purpose. Sport activities like playing ball, skiing or swimming where you use your whole body will give the same positive effect and in addition they will strengthen your condition. Activities like jogging or cycling are good for your lower body, but they must be combined with activities that also strengthen your upper body.
- Take a few minutes to stretch out every day. Have also a good session of stretching exercises at last every third day. It is important to take time to stretch out every part of your body in every natural direction. If your back or some limb is excessively curved or bended toward one particular direction, it is important to stretch out enough time in the opposite direction. Yoga is a good way of stretching out.
- You must take some time each day to stress down to lessen unnecessary tension in your muscles. Sitting down some time and listen to calming music each day can help you to stress down. Some daily meditation is a good method of reducing the stress level. Taking a siesta in the middle of each day is still another method of relaxation and stress reduction. Having a regular good nights sleep of around 7 hours after each day will also reduce your stress level.
- Massaging stiff and painful areas can help to give relaxation, increase flexibility, increase blood flow and speed up the healing process. You can massage yourself or let a friend do it. Using a liniment or ointment that smoothes the massage movements, alleviate pain and stimulate blood circulation will increase the efficiency of the massage. You should always massage in the direction of the blood flow. During the massage, use light pressure at the beginning and gradually increase the force, but do never massage so hard that it feels uncomfortable.
- A good diet will give your joints and muscles greater resistance against damage and stimulate to faster healing of small damages that occasionally occur. Food containing omega-3 fatty acids are especially valuable, like fish, seafood, marine oils, flaxseed oil and olive oil. Certain supplements of natural substances and herbs may give valuable stimulation of the healing processes in muscles, joints and bone structures, for example: marine omega-3 poly-unsaturated oils, glucosamine, chondroitine ,hyaluronic acid, methylsulfonylmethane, vitamine-E, vitamine D, vitamine B3, vitamine C, coral calcium, magnesium, boron, silica, Boswelia serrata, ginger, cat's claw, turmenic and grape seed extract.

Joint Supplements Reviews - By: SudhaniSEO
People of all ages and activity levels suffer from joint pain. Arthritis is the most common culprit, which can strike at any age. Athletes are another group that is particularly susceptible to joint pain and inflammation. Proper nutrition and exercise techniques can help alleviate many of the symptoms of joint pain. The most popular and effective joint supplements typically contain ingredients that can both promote stronger joints and joint repair, as well as help with pain and inflammation. It has been observed that 2/3 individuals are afflicted with joint pain in the US alone. This joint pain ranges from the temporary joint immobility and stiffness to the chronic rheumatoid arthritis.
It has been observed that 2/3 individuals are afflicted with Joint Pain in the US alone. This Joint Pain ranges from the temporary joint immobility and stiffness to the chronic rheumatoid arthritis. Lifestyle, diet, medication and exercise all play an important role in deciding the nature of joint pains that one could become prey to, with advancing age.
What causes Joint Pain
As we age, bodily collagen breaks down, cartilage and bone is subject to wear and tear, cellular regeneration is lowed down in the body, illness and disease, injury and stress all leave their own marks on the overall health and fitness. The pain between joints is mostly due to thinning of the cartilage, which no longer acts as the shock absorber. Inflammation of the joints due to increasing friction and wearing down of cartilage and bone results in joint deformity and Arthritis.
Athletes engaged routinely in high impact sports (rugby, soccer etc.,) and exercise, are also subject to severe joint pains in later years.
Ingredients
While most Joint Supplements contain cartilage building Glucosamine and Chondroitin, which also protect existing cartilage, newer suplements incorporate substances like Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), Collagen and Hyaluronic acid (HA).
Some new generation joint supplements contain COX-2 inhibitors, which are a class of drugs that selectively inhibit COX-2, an enzyme involved in the inflammation pathway, while sparing COX-1, thereby reducing gastrointestinal toxicity. COX-2 selective inhibitors are the newest of the NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
How They Work :
Joint Supplements are designed to provide lasting relief when it comes to joint pains and rheumatic arthritis.
To protect cartilage and help rebuild it, physicians recommend Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Collagen, Hyaluronic acid (HA), and Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) are some of the newer and more promising ingredients being used by people suffering from joint pain.
Joint supplements have been observed to reduce pain and swelling, repair damaged tissue and also increase joint strength in 2-3 months after usage.
Synotrex, with its proprietary blend of patented ingredients, natural COX-2 inhibitors and multiple joint support and anti-inflammatory agents has made it to the top as an effective alternative for most kinds of joint pain. Synotrex is the only product with a 90-Day Guarantee, and the customer support and results were among the best.

Orthopedics And Your Child
Orthopedics And Your Child - By: Andrea Avery
Did you know that children suffer issues related to orthopedics just like adults? In fact, serious problems with growth and mobility can begin during your child’s infancy. Just as often, though, these skeletal conditions are a part of the natural growth process. There are a number of signs to look out for, as well as a number of solutions for you and your child.
Occasionally, when a child first begins walking they will only use their toes to travel. This is a general occurrence and isn’t necessarily something to cause alarm. If your child is walking mainly on their toes, don’t worry it’s a perfectly normal thing for them. Sometimes occurring well into the second year, toddlers who are learning to walk will do so up on their toes. However, in the rare occurrence that your child is “toe-walking” after their second year or seems to be doing so all the time, seek a doctor or take your child to an orthopedics specialist.
Another commonly occurring orthopedic phenomenon with infants is the bowed leg. Because infants are built to fit inside a mother’s womb, their legs must curve and bones will take on bowed appearance. This phenomenon will generally disappear as the child ages and their infant bone structure is replaced with their more permanent and harder skeleton. As the child begins walking regularly their legs will have a stronger, straighter look. Very rarely do bowed legs become a problem beyond toddler hood.
Finally, infants can also exhibit the look of being “pigeon-toed”. If your infant or young toddler walks with their toes pointed in toward one another, don’t be alarmed as this is quite common during early childhood. Every once in a while children, who walk with their toes pointing inward, will not grow out of this style of walking until they reach late childhood or even young adulthood. Most orthopedic surgeons will explain that this experience, although frustrating, is a natural part of the growth process for some kids.
There are times when you will need to seek out an orthopedist or orthopedic surgeon. They can give you detailed advice on the growth of your child, what’s normal and what needs treatment. Those doctors with a focus in orthopedics will want the very best possible outcome as your child continues through their growth patterns. You may have to consider surgical intervention to help along your child’s growth. Most likely, though, you will be given a simple list of aids that can help your child.
Sometimes simply purchasing your child a good pair of shoes will do the trick. Because kids experience foot and leg pain just like an adult, it is very important that they have a good fitting pair of shoes. This should be something they are comfortable in for long periods of time in which they can perform various activities. Shoes with an orthopedics purpose are generally leather shoes made with a thick, non-sloping sole. Comfortable shoes, even for a normal walking and growing child, can be a good fit.

Causes of edema in feet and ankles
Causes of edema in feet and ankles - edema treatments with amiloride hydrochlorothiazide - By: Bhupinder Kaur Khera
Amiloride also called as water pill, is a potassium-sparing diuretic that was approved in 1967 for the management of hypertension and congestive heart failure. Amiloride works by directly blocking the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) thereby inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the late distal convoluted tubules, connecting tubules, and collecting ducts in the kidneys. This promotes the loss of sodium and water from the body, but without depleting potassium. HCTZ is often used in the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, symptomatic edema and the prevention of kidney stones. It belongs to the thiazide class of diuretics that acts by inhibiting the kidneys' ability to retain water. This goes on to reduce the volume of the blood, decreasing blood return to the heart and thus cardiac output and, by other means, is believed to lower peripheral vascular resistance. Amiloride is used in combination with hydrochlorothiazide or HCTZ to balance the electrolyte levels. Hydrochlorothiazide decreases potassium levels in the blood wheareas amiloride increases potassium levels in the blood to keep away from hypokalemia.
Edema, dropsy or hydropsy is an abnormal accumulation of excessive amount of watery fluid in cells, tissues, or body cavities, causing swelling. Edema can cause due to the contribution of number of factors such as increased hydrostatic pressure, reduced oncotic pressure within blood vessels, increased tissue oncotic pressure, increased blood vessel wall permeability, obstruction of fluid clearance via the lymphatic system, changes in the water retaining properties of the tissues. The conditions like hypertension, overweight, over-eating, low blood pressure, high salt food, insect bite, spider bite, air travel, pregnancy and so on are the factors that play a major role. Thus, exercises and walking should be included in daily life.
Different types of edema include cerebral edema, pulmonary edema, eye edema, or peripheral edema. Causes of edema which are generalized to the whole body can cause edema in multiple organs and peripherally. Peripheral edema is the swelling of tissues, usually in the lower limbs like feet ankle or legs, occurring due to the accumulation of fluids. Peripheral edema can also appear by sitting for a prolonged period of time or standing without moving. Some medicines are also known to cause or worsen the condition. According to most physicians, edema may occur before there is any significant protein in the urine (protein-uria) or fall in plasma protein level. Further studies also indicate that most forms of nephrotic syndrome are due to biochemical and structural changes in the basement membrane of capillaries in the kidney glomerulae, and these changes occur, if to a lesser degree, in the vessels of most other tissues of the body. Thus the resulting increase in permeability that leads to protein in the urine can explain the edema if all other vessels are more permeable as well.

Obesity - The Complications Involved
Obesity - The Complications Involved - By: Jenna Rivers
It's not a sin to be overweight. It isn't even considered illegal. But we should bear in mind that being overweight is simply hurting one's body or putting one's self at risk of many diseases. Many people are unaware that being overweight has many negative effects to the person's physical and mental health.
Heart Disease- One of the most common problems a person will encounter if that person is obese or overweight. In the US, heart disease due to overweight is one of the leading causes of death and disability for men and women. And when a person is overweight, tendency is that he or she might suffer high blood pressure.
If a person is also overweight, the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in his blood may also be high. And if this is the case, he might suffer angina, which is a pain in the chest that is caused by a low level of oxygen to the heart of the person. Sudden death due to certain heart disease may also occur without warning or symptoms.
Osteoarthritis is a case when the cartilage and the joint bone in the joint wear away. Osteoarthritis usually occurs on the joints of the bone; knees, elbow, hips, lower back and even fingers.
Being overweight greatly increases the risk that a person will acquire osteoarthritis, this is because if a person is overweight, the extra weight of that person increases the pressure on cartilage and joints of the person.
Another disease that a person will get from being overweight is cancer. Few people know about this.
Gallbladder cancer, cancer of the uterus, cervix cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and colon cancer are some of the types of cancer that women will get from being overweight. For men, rectum cancer, prostate cancer and cancer of the colon are more common.
Another very common and known health problem that comes along from being overweight is diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes that is acquired from being overweight. Type 2 diabetes is the common and major cause of different kinds of heart diseases, stroke, early blindness, blurred vision, kidney disease and death.
The complications that are stated above are only some of the many complications that being overweight brings. Having self discipline is an important character we should develop if we really want to slim down and stay healthy.

The Many Benefits Of The Stainless Steel Water Bottle
The Many Benefits Of The Stainless Steel Water Bottle - The Green Bottle Is Here! - By: bigbiffs
With most everything going green today, it makes perfect sense that there would be a smart alternative to plastic bottles. With the popularity of bottled water, I was pleased to discover the “green bottle”, the stainless steel water bottle that simply makes sense and is the smart choice over plastic bottles. It really is the “makes sense” option especially when it comes to buying the perfect container for you to take with you when you want to travel with liquids. If you are looking for an alternative to plastic water bottles, consider getting a stainless steel water bottle for your water and other beverages. I recently did some online research about green bottles, and I discovered that there are many varieties from which to choose from.
To begin with, let's briefly discuss the problems with plastic bottles. Using plastic bottles for your water no longer seems to make sense. Recent studies have come out reporting serious health issues with BPA, a hormone disrupting chemical that has existed in many plastics. Even though many manufacturers have removed BPA, there are still many questionable chemicals in plastic.
On top of that, many people today are looking for ways to go green and do their part by helping the environment. If you want to do your part, you should seriously consider getting a stainless steel water bottle instead of using a plastic bottle since a steel bottle can be reused over and over again and you do not have the waste of tossing out single use plastic bottles. Stainless steel bottles are also a money saver and you can save hundreds of dollars a year by not buying plastic single use bottles.
There are many choices for you to make when it comes to getting a stainless steel water bottle for yourself or for your family when you are looking for transportable bottles for your beverages. In addition to single bottles, there are insulated bottles which will keep the contents hot or cold and you can find a filtered water bottle which purifies water as you drink.
When it comes to transportable bottles for carrying liquids for yourself or your children, the best choice is clearly a stainless steel water bottle that you can purchase online. I've reviewed several sites, and came across one in particular that seemed to offer solid choices, an easy to navigate site, and what I found to be very competitive price wise. The site is GreenBottle.info and while perusing their site I was quite impressed with the variety of green bottles available.
