Credit Clean Up Made Easy - By: Jim Kemish
Starting Your Journey
Credit clean up can be a daunting task, but if you take one step at a time it can be easy and productive. Credit clean up is the process of disputing and having removed erroneous information from your credit report. You can embark on this journey on your own or hire a credit repair service to do it for you.
You Are Probably Right
The first step in the process is an exhaustive examination of your three bureau reports. It is critical, if you want the best results, to take the stance that the bureaus are often wrong. Many people have the mistaken attitude that Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion are authority figures, and as a result, give them the benefit of the doubt.
Every Error Counts
When it comes to credit clean up, you cannot afford to let a suspicious account slip by. Every error, even those that seem relatively innocuous, can have a significant impact on your FICO scores. Treat each questionable issue like money. You would not just walk by a pile of cash on the street, and credit mistakes can be worth hundreds.
Get Help if Needed
If you look at your credit report and cannot make any sense of it, you might be a candidate for credit repair services. Do not feel bad or inadequate of you cannot understand reporting data, it is not unlike another language. Unless you have some exposure it can seem entirely alien.
Simplicity Rules
The credit clean up dispute process is best approached in a simplistic fashion. It is handy to know that the bureaus do not want voluminous tomes explaining all of your thoughts about life and suspicions about the reporting error. Save yourself the headache and trim the dispute letter down to the bare bones
No Brain Strain
For example, if you see a late payment and believe it to be wrong, just say that you were never late. If you see an account that is not yours, just say so. Do not elaborate by listing other accounts you had with the same lender or anything of the sort. Credit clean up requires perseverance, but it does not have to be intellectually taxing.
Staying the Course
And when it comes to perseverance, a few more words are in order. The bureaus are not completely geared towards complying instantly or favorably the first time they receive a request for a correction. This does not mean that they are remiss; it is just the way the system works. If an error is verified, just dispute it again as needed, until you are satisfied.
The Service Option
Here also, if you are confused by the dispute part of the credit clean up, just find a reputable credit repair service and hire them to do the job for you. Most services are very inexpensive and are experts in organizing and following up with the bureaus to insure the outcome you desire. Do not let confusion be an obstacle.
Monitor Your Credit
Once you get the results you desire you might want to consider joining a monitoring service which will alert you to any material change in your reports including inquiries, derogatory events, and new accounts. This will give you the opportunity to react instantly to mistakes before they cause you financial problems. These monitoring services are quite reasonable and well worth the protection they offer.
