How To Have Elegant Appeal With Oak Dining Furniture - By: John Gray
My 1st house, when I married had an open plan kitchen and dining room. Therefore when we bought our present home, which is older, we also acquired a divided dining room for the first time. I was looking forward into making it a room with individuality and flair. I needed exactly the right style of dining furniture and spent ages reading magazines, looking at websites and window shopping.
There was no way that I was going to change my mind on any look of decorating the dinning room how I wanted. I had seen loads of houses of my friends in which the dinning room exterior had fused in with the kitchen or living room and I did not want this look. If I even let my dining room go an inch in this way, I knew I would lose the whole effect.
Once all the family had agreed on this, we could set about putting our decorating plans into action. I was making sure that in my haste to decorate, I did not confuse formal with indifferent, stodgy and flat. I purchased the most fantastic quality dining sets we could afford as I knew that they would last for years.
It was actual wood and a light finish rather than dark and we had looked closely at wood grains, colours and finishes. We had ruled out darker woods like walnut and mahogany in favour of lighter shades like beech, maple and oak. The table also extended out so I could fit further people if needed. The feel of the wood was so soft. My brand new dining furniture could only be described as pragmatic, elegant and modernistic.
The wood on the chairs matched the table perfectly and they were set off with black leather stitched into the seats and backs. The leather just finished the modern look. The effect was mind boggling. We also purchased two cabinets that would display all the china. This completed the look of the dinning room. The two dining cabinets gave me so much storage as well for glasses, candles and table cloths. I stood back and admired how much the dining room had come together. The oak furniture is the centre magnet and is admired by all that come round. My favoured room in the house is now the dining room. The oak furniture was worth every penny.
