Golden beaches, an ace photographer, scenic resorts, stunning sunsets and gorgeous models all make up the Kingfisher Calendar 2011. The Kingfisher Calendar has been shot by ace lensman, Atul Kasbekar across exotic locations in the beautiful island of Mauritius. The calendar features models, Lisa Haydon, Fiona Thomas, Charlotte Lohmann, Liza Golden, Anjali Lavania and the winner of the Kingfisher Calendar talent hunt Angela Johnson.

The shoot for the calendar took place in the beautiful Le Touessrok resort in Mauritius, where the beauty of the sensuous models was captured in the gorgeous beach locales. This is for the second time that the island was picked as the destination for the shoot to take place. Apart from the Le Touessrok resort, the calendar also features other enchanting locales of Mauritius. One of them is the island of Chamarel, where volcanic deposits have lent the earth a multi-hued pattern. As Kasbekar recalls, “It was a restricted area. No one, absolutely no one, was allowed to set foot there. But the Department of Tourism in Mauritius was generous enough to let us shoot there for the Kingfisher Calendar 2011.” Kasbekar known for his ingenuity and creativity with the lenses has been long conceptualizing the theme for the calendar. “Keeping the shots and the models sensual and not vulgar is something I emphasize on all the time. The calendar needs to look elegantly sexy and not cheap,” he says.

Sharing her experiences while shooting for the calendar, model Anjali Lavania says, “There is no denying that he (Atul Kasbekar) is a hard taskmaster, but he also has a crazy sense of humour! Throwing me in with sharks last year and shooting on top of a waterfall this year, it's almost like Kingfisher Calendar meets Fear Factor!” The shoot has also left the models with several memories of a lifetime. As Liza describes, “One of the most thrilling experiences was when I was required to shoot with two Cheetahs, head next to them, touching them. This is definitely not something you do every day. We also had a blast riding a quad bike through the safari at Casela Nature Park, watching zebras, ostriches and antelope out in the open.”

For Anjali, that gave her the most memorable experience of them all. “I am the only person to set foot on the seven-coloured earth of Chamarel. Even the crew was not allowed to step on it and was behind a fence. And right after that, I performed a super-dangerous feat by climbing up the slippery moss-covered rocks of the raging Rochester waterfall without a harness,” she recounts.
